Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Project Estimator to join our growing electrical contracting team. The Project Estimator is responsible for deciding the projected time frame needed to complete a project and additional factors such as labor needs, materials, budgets and potential setbacks. The Project Estimator analyzes project plans and specifications and collaborates with contractors, vendors, accountants and operations personnel to provide the most accurate and comprehensive financial and budget analysis to support successful project execution.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to:

  • Analyze plans, specifications, proposals, and other contract documents to determine the overall project scope and project requirements
  • Review bid requirements for projects ensuring all aspects of the project are documented and accounted for
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates, including labor hours, material pricing, and subcontractor costs
  • Identify potential risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving measures
  • Researching, sourcing, negotiating and obtaining best prices and quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
  • Identify, manage, and maintain relationships with subcontractors, ensuring bids are completed in a timely manner, thoroughly, and accurately
  • Identify and submit required project documentation and notify other departments
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as needed
  • Prepare and submit bid proposals and supporting documentation
  • Collaborate with project managers and field leadership during preconstruction and handoff
  • Maintain organized estimate files, bid logs, and historical cost data
  • Track bid results and analyze performance to improve future estimates

Education and Experience:
  • College degree preferred but not required
  • At least 5 years of project estimating experience required
  • Experience working with estimating software programs (Ex. McCormick, EBM)
  • Understand principles and methods of cost accounting, contracts, safety, project management, procurement, negotiating, design, applicable codes and regulations
  • Ability to read blueprints and construction documents
  • Ability to negotiate contract terms and conditions
  • In-depth knowledge of construction principles/practices required
  • Experience dealing with subcontracts, subcontractors and/or self-perform work
